Roger Federer can make history this week in Rotterdam by becoming the oldest man to hold the world number one spot in the ATP rankings.
The Swiss legend needs to reach the semi-finals to achieve the feat and he gets his campaign underway on Wednesday with a first round match against Belgian qualifier Ruben Bemelmans.
The two have never met before, and Federer said of his opponent: ‘I know him a bit, but not well enough yet. I still have some scouting to do. Perhaps more important is that I have to be ready for that game myself.’
The 30-year-old is not thought likely to pose a threat to Federer’s chances of making history at the age of 36.
