Two teenagers have been arrested following the suspected murder of a six-week-old baby.

An 18-year-old woman and 16-year-old boy, both from Southampton, have been taken into custody.

Police have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in Defender Road where the alleged murder took place.

Emergency services went to the house at 5am on Sunday in the Peartree area of the city following reports of the boy needing medical attention.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘The baby was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

‘Enquiries into the circumstances are on-going.

‘An 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy, both from Southampton, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

‘They remain in custody at this time and are assisting police with enquiries.’
