Thiago Silva sent a despondent message to Paris Saint-Germain fans as he was dropped for the side’s clash with Real Madrid.
Presnel Kimpembe has replaced Silva in PSG’s starting XI in a bold statement from Unai Emery heading into the Champions League round of 16 tie against their La Liga opponents.
Silva was reportedly ‘incredibly surprised’ when he was informed that he would be starting on the bench at the Bernabeu in the lead-up to the match.
Kimpembe started in PSG’s 4-0 victory over Barcelona last season but the Ligue 1 club lost famously lost 6-1 in the second leg when Silva returned to the team.
‘I hope that God will help me to improve,’ the Brazil defender posted on Instagram ahead of Wednesday night’s clash.
Kimpembe came through the ranks at AS Eragny before joining PSG’s academy in 2005.
Silva was an unused substitute as PSG earned a 1-0 victory over Toulouse in Ligue 1 at the weekend.
Marquinhos has been handed the captain’s armband at the Bernabeu in Silva’s absence.
