Southampton can rightly feel incredibly hard done by after what should have been an opening goal against Manchester United was disallowed for offside.
After a bright start from the Saints in the EFL Cup final, right-back Cedric Soares dispossessed Marcos Rojo just outside the area before driving into the box.
The Portugal international drilled across a ball that was clipped home by in-form striker Manolo Gabbiadini.
But to Southampton’s dismay, the linesman’s flag was promptly raised to rule the goal out for offside.
While Ryan Bertrand was standing in an offside position, Gabbiadini was being played on by England defender Chris Smalling.
To make matters worse for Southampton, just 10 minutes later Zlatan Ibrahimovic fired Jose Mourinho’s side ahead with a long-range free-kick.
