Check out the reactions of these celebrities as La La Land was handed Moonlight’s Oscar for best film by mistake.
The 2017 Oscars were spectacularly derailed by an unfortunate blunder at the end of the show.
For those who haven’t caught up (where have you been?!) La La Land was mistakenly awarded the Oscar for best film at the ceremony on Sunday night.
The winner was in fact Moonlight, and there was much embarrassment all round when the news was delivered *with the cast and crew of La La Land already on stage*.
Everyone was in shock at the slip up, including star and nominee Ryan Gosling, who appeared to be hiding a smirk.
But the reactions of the famous faces sat in the audience are absolutely priceless
The likes of Matt Damon, Michelle Williams, Mel Gibson and Dwayne Johnson were caught on camera looking baffled at what had just happened.
Damon is completely stunned, as is Salma Hayek and Meryl Streep.
Boy, was Meryl stunned.
There were plenty of Oscargate faces to choose from.
Thankfully, there were no hard feelings between the two movies.
What is Moonlight about? Everything you need to know about the Best Picture Oscar winner
What’s the plot?
Moonlight is a coming-of-age film, charting the life of Chiron across three defining chapters of his life – starting out as a young black man growing up in turbulent Miami, it follows his ongoing struggles with his sexuality and unstable family life.
As we follow his life through his teenage years and into manhood – the film becomes a much broader inspection into identity as a whole.
Is it any good?
In our review, we described the film as ‘extremely moving’ which ‘speaks of the struggles of black men in marginalised communities, of the push and pull of nature versus nurture, and finding yourself – no matter how long it takes.’
Can I see a trailer?
Yes, yes you can.
Who’s in it?
Main character Chiron is played by three different actors over the course of the film: Alex R. Hibbert plays his younger self, Ashton Sanders plays his teenage years and Trevante Rhodes plays Chiron in his adult prime.
Playing his close friend Kevin is another batch of three actors, including Jharrel Jerome, Jaden Piner and Andre Holland.
The film also boasts an excellent supporting cast, including Mahershala Ali (Best Supporting Actor for his role as drug dealer Juan), Janelle Monae as Teresa and Naomie Harris as Paula.
Who’s behind the camera?
Barry Jenkins has directed the film and also written the screenplay.
Where can I catch it?
Moonlight is currently showing in UK cinemas now.
La La Land didn’t walk away empty handed on the night, with Emma Stone winning best actress and director Damien Chazelle picking up best director.
