Zlatan Ibrahimovic was eager to remind Paul Pogba of just how much he cost Manchester United in the wake of Sunday’s EFL Cup final win over Southampton.

A late header from Ibrahimovic, his second goal of the match and 26th of an increasingly stupendous first season in English football, sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory and a place in United folklore.

While the totemic Swede put in a monstrous performance, Pogba again failed to shine on the biggest of stages, despite Jose Mourinho singling out the France international for praise.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Ibrahimovic, Pogba said: ‘That’s why we bought him.’

However, Ibrahimovic was quick to respond to his Manchester United teammate: ‘Bought me? I came for free. They bought you!’

While the 35-year-old cost United nothing in terms of a transfer fee after his contract with PSG expired in the summer, Pogba set United back a world record fee of £89 million.

It’s not hard, on Sunday’s evidence at least, to judge which player has offered more value for money!
