Jamie Redknapp has lavished praise on Cesc Fabregas, describing the midfielder’s performance against Swansea City as ‘like watching Frank Lampard in his pomp’.

Fabregas marked his 300th Premier League appearance with a man of the match performance, scoring one and then laying another on a plate for teammate Pedro as Chelsea ran out 3-1 winners.

Redknapp, the former Tottenham midfielder and Frank Lampard’s cousin, believes the Spaniard deserves more credit.

‘I am so impressed with Cesc Fabregas’s attitude,’ Redknapp wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

‘He has been restricted to 20-minute cameos by Antonio Conte this season but has made a big impact when called upon on so many occasions.’

The Chelsea midfielder has now been directly involved in 10 goals this season – that’s more than Mesut Ozil (9), despite playing 1,227 fewer minutes than the German.

Redknapp believes Fabregas is underappreciated and should be recognised as one of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders.

‘He has never been blessed with pace but there are very few players who have his eye for a pass,’ he added.

‘I love how he arrives late in the box, too – on Saturday at Stamford Bridge it was like watching Frank Lampard in his pomp.
