A dog who was unable to stand after being abandoned as a puppy has walked his owner down the aisle on her wedding day.

WIlliam weighed just 3kg, instead of a healthy 10kg, when he was found close to death lying in his own faeces and urine in 2015.

The greyhound-saluki was in such a bad condition he was described as one of the thinnest dogs vets at RSCPA Coventry had ever seen.

But It was there he caught the eye of press officer Rachel Butler who thought he would make a great companion for West Highland terrier, Harry, at her home in Derby.

The dog went on to make a full recovery in time for Rachel’s marriage to Chris Mallett.

Rachel told the Sunday People: ‘Having William at the ceremony made us both feel so proud at how far he has come.

‘When he was brought into the RSPCA’s care he was close to death. But on our wedding day his tail did not stop wagging.’

She added: ‘He is very confident these days and he makes us laugh every day.’
