The Oscars is the entertainment bash of the year (well, so far), and host Jimmy Kimmel is running the show for the very first time.
The 49-year-old father of three is one of the kings of late night telly in America, having hosted his own show since 2003.
So ahead of tonight’s Academy Awards here’s everything you need to know about Mr Kimmel…
What’s his day job?
Apart from presenting the *biggest night in showbiz*, Jimmy hosts late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!
He’s not the only US talk show host called Jimmy is he?
Jimmy Kimmel is not to be confused with Jimmy Fallon, of Saturday Night Live fame, who hosts The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (but it’s on a different channel to the *other* Jimmy, don’t worry!)
This is Jimmy Fallon:
And this is Jimmy Kimmel:
What’s his backstory?
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jimmy moved to Las Vegas when he was just nine years old.
During High School, Jimmy started hosting a Sunday night radio show and carried on his radio career all through university in California and Arizona.
He started his telly career on Win Ben Stein’s Money on Comedy Central which won him an Emmy for Best Game Show Host with co-host, Ben Stein.
In 2003, Jimmy left the show and started his own show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC.
And 14 years later, here we are.
Has he hosted the Oscars before?
No. This will be his first time hosting the Awards.
Has he presented *any* awards shows?
Yes. He has hosted the Emmys twice – in 2012 and last year.
Watch his opening monologue here:
Is he the only talk show host/comedian to have hosted the Oscars?
No. There’s a long tradition of funny people hosting the bash.
From Ellen DeGeneres handing out pizza to starved celebs to Chris Rock slightly offending some people last year, comedians tend to either totally rock the presenting gig – or blow it.
In fact, Jimmy has already spoken out about how he’s feeling.
He said: ‘My subconscious tell me it’s going to be a disaster,’ The Telegraph reported.
‘This is a no-win situation. Even if it goes great, you still get a lot of s*** from a lot of people.’
Oh dear. But we think you’ll do great Jimmy!
