Entertainment Weekly, the US based movie and TV weekly magazine that works closely with Lucasfilm on film and TV reveals, released a series of images from The Last Jedi, giving fans a closer look into the characters and worlds of episode eight.
Focusing on all of the films major characters, the images allow us a deep dive into the film as well as giving us another look at some of the movies cutest inhabitants, the Porgs.
Let’s take a look at the images and see what they reveal.
First off, we see Rey (Daisy Ridley), looking as serious as she did at the finale of The Force Awakens.
Standing in front of the stone huts on the island planet of Ahch-To, she could possibly be deep in training with Luke Skywalker.
The next image shows Rey standing in front of a stone entryway as Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) steps out.
You may remember the first teaser trailer for The Last Jedi ended with Luke standing in that doorway.
Rey is holding her trusty staff, while Luke is in different clothing to the robes we saw him in at the end of The Force Awakens.
Next up are Finn (John Boyega) and Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), a new character introduced in The Last Jedi.
Rose is set to be the lead character in a new novel, Cobalt Squadron, which shows her role in one of the Resistance’s ace fighter squadrons.
A number of images show Rose and Finn working together, so perhaps a relationship strikes up between the two.
Next, the already infamous Porgs.
This has Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), still presumably in mourning over the loss of Han Solo, and a Porg at the forefront of the shot.
Indigenous to Ahch-To, it seems clear that at least one of these unbearably cute creatures makes it off the island in the Millennium Falcon.
While The Force Awakens gave the impression that Luke was entirely alone on Ahch-To, we now know that’s not the case.
Along with the Porgs, the island is also to a religious order of alien nuns who look after the ancient Jedi structures.
Are they adept in the Force and able to commune with Luke, or is their strength more practical? Or perhaps spiritual?
With rumours that Luke has his own Force spirit Jedi council of Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, maybe the Force nuns play a role.
Certainly the most striking of the new images includes the red armoured Praetorian Guards, who protect Supreme Leader Snoke.
Evoking the Emperors Guards from Revenge Of The Sith and Return Of The Jedi, these look battle ready.
Long-time fans will remember the Dark Horse comics series Crimson Empire and its lead character Karnox Jax.
These guards could well be every bit as threatening as those lethal adversaries.
Kylo Ren looks pensive in his photo, far from the angry whirlwind that tore through The Force Awakens.
Pensive and contemplative, perhaps this hints at a turn of allegiance for Kylo.
After all, he is the son of General Leia and the late Han Solo and the nephew of Luke Skywalker.
Poe Dameron was a character that originally wasn’t meant to make it out of episode seven alive.
Stellar work from Oscar Isaac kept the character alive, developing a deep bond with General Organa who has put so much faith in Poe and his abilities.
Leia sees in Poe a man who could, with time, become a great leader of the Resistance.
Cut off from the Republic, the fate of this small band of fighters teeters on the brink.
We once again see Finn, this time in the cockpit of a Resistance speeder as he hurtles across the mineral strewn flats of the planet Crait as they take on the First Orders heavy assault walker, the monstrous AT-M6.
Rumours have begun to surface that perhaps it’s Finn who turns his back on the Resistance, returning to the First Order. That would surely be a shock.
That said, the middle chapter of the trilogy needs plenty of cliffhanger elements to take us into the ninth film.
Kylo Ren spent much of The Force Awakens aboard his towering shuttle, but The Last Jedi sees Ren piloting a new version of the classic TIE fighter.
The TIE Silencer is modelled closely on Darth Vader’s classic X1 from the original film and the TIE Interceptors from Return of the Jedi.
An impressive vessel, but will we see its lasers turn on the resistance or the First Order?
Canto Bight is the casino planet where Finn and Rose travel on an undercover mission.
A look at the image shows a selection of scaffold-like vessels dotted across various landing platforms, and closer inspection shows a number of armoured and caped characters.
Are these partons of the casino, security guards or agents of the First Order?
With only 125 days remaining until the release of the film here in the UK there are sure to be more images and reveals heading our way.
The Journey To The Last Jedi book publishing program is about to kick off, giving us an even more detailed look into the characters and worlds of the movie.
One thing’s for sure, there are plenty of secrets and surprises on our way come December 14.
