It’s not like Donald Trump to say something completely out of the ordinary at an inappropriate time.
*Stares blankly into distance*
Toady the big man was talking to the president of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, at a generic introductory White House press conference.
This is actually what Trump said because he doesn’t speak like a normal human being: ‘We have many things to discuss. We’re going to spend quite a bit of time today.’
Then he dropped this clanger: ‘Panama Canal is doing quite well — I think we did a good job building it, right? We did a very good job.’
Even Varela calls him out by saying: ‘Yeah, 100 years ago.’
He’s right — the structure has been around for a century. Other than the fact this was just an outrageously bizarre comment to make, it’s just plain wrong. The internet gave no mercy.
But people were happy the Panama Canal is finally getting the recognition it deserves.
So much recognition.
Finally, a light has been shed on Panama. Let us celebrate all things Panama. Panama.
The internet doesn’t forget.
No doubt Varela was cracking up when his team tweeted out this picture describing his encounter with Trump as a ‘productive dialogue’.
In case you were wondering what other insights the US leader had to offer, he said of the visit: ‘But things are going well in Panama, the relationship is very strong, and we’re developing new things to do and only getting stronger. And our friendship with the president is very good.’
Cool. Thanks for the update.
Sleep well tonight knowing the Panama Canal is doing a good job.
