The Weeknd has been hailed as Selena Gomez‘s biggest support during her recovery from kidney failure.
Last week Selena revealed she’d secretly undergone a kidney transplant operation after going into kidney failure in May of this year due to complications with her autoimmune disease lupus.
It’s now been said that boyfriend The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye whom she’s dated since at least January, was there by her side the whole time.
‘Abel has been one of her biggest supports,’ a source told People. ‘She had been traveling with him on his tour and he was off during her surgery and right after during her recovery.
‘He’s been very caring and it’s meant a lot to her to have him by her side.’
Selena was in Chicago for her boyfriend The Weeknd‘s concert when her health deteriorated, with Abel at her side during the scare. It is believed Selena was on the kidney transplant waiting list at this time.
The singer was meant to appear at this year’s VMAs on August 27 but he was a no show.
And everything seems to be great for the pair now, as they were spotted both looking happy and healthy leaving Selena’s New York City apartment.
She was later seen leaving his apartment carrying her dog.
Selena needed a kidney transplant due to lupus, a disease which causes the body’s immune system to attack itself and ravaged her kidneys. Her best friend Francia Raisa stepped up as a donor.
Since revealing her kidney failure, an American lupus charity has received in excess of £368k in donations.
