It’s good news for zombie fans as AMC have announced they’ve renewed The Walking Dead for a ninth season.

The series will take on a new showrunner as Scott Gimple steps down from the role and moves on to be Chief Content Officer for the Walking Dead universe, including Fear the Walking Dead.

Angela Kang, who has been a writer with the show since 2011, will stand as showrunner in his place and said in a statement her fangirl dream has come true.

Now season nine will kick off with episode 116, and will watch Rick Grimes and his team battle it out with the Saviors.

He said: ‘This is an enormously important day for the entire ‘The Walking Dead’ television universe.

‘We are proud to acknowledge Angela’s significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction.

‘Further, with gratitude and admiration, we also recognize Scott’s broad impact on, and leadership of, the content that fuels our TWD universe.’

The Walking Dead returns on February 25 in the US, and airs on Fox February 26 in the UK at 9pm.
