Tammy Abraham has briefly returned to Chelsea from his loan spell at Bristol City for treatment on a thigh injury, the club’s manager Lee Johnson has confirmed.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a superb season in the Championship, netting 18 goals in 30 league games so far to show Antonio Conte he may be worth thinking about for next season.

Chelsea will be concerned that he’s had to return for treatment on an injury, but Johnson says he doesn’t expect the youngster to be away for too long.

‘He’ll be out for two or three weeks,’ Johnson said.

‘Chelsea are taking care of Tammy at the moment. We’ll get him back here in a week to ten days.’

Chelsea don’t have the best track record of handing opportunities to young players, but Conte suggested he could be ready to give Abraham a chance earlier this season.

‘Abraham is another young player, he’s the future for Chelsea, for sure. Abraham has a great potential. I think the academy is working very well,’ the Italian said in October.
