YouTube fans are wearily accustomed to sitting through three seconds of some irritating advert before watching a video.

Now it’s been claimed that Snapchatters will soon face similarly annoying ads before they are allowed to watch content.

Advertising experts have claimed Snapchat users will soon be forced to watch three-second adverts.

‘Advertisers are not spending as much as they have previously with Snapchat,’ an industry insider told Ad Age.

‘They have to do something that draws more interest from advertisers, and they are getting more aggressive to address the market’s needs.’

If the rumours are true, it would be a big change for Snapchat, because CEO Evan Spiegel has previously slammed irrittating online advertising.

In 2015, he said: ‘I got an ad this morning for something I was thinking about buying yesterday, and it’s really annoying.’

Snapchat has released the first details of a radical redesign aimed at helping users see more content from their friends – and less from people they don’t like all that much.

This update separates Chats and Stories from your friends from Stories by professional ‘publishers, creators and the community’.
