Romelu Lukaku was expected back in training today as the Everton striker returns to fitness.

The Belgian didn’t travel to Dubai with the rest of the Everton squad for their recent warm-weather training camp, instead returning to his native country for treatment on a calf problem.

Everton have since returned to the UK and Lukaku was expected to join them.

‘He has a lot of confidence in the Belgian doctor and I gave him permission to go to Belgium and recover,’ Everton manager Ronald Koeman explained.

‘We expect him, normally, next Tuesday [today] to be joining in the training session. He will be fit and available for the weekend.’

Everton fans will hope Koeman is correct in his assertion Lukaku will be fit to play Sunderland this Saturday. The 23-year-old has been sensational this season, scoring four goals in the recent outing against Bournemouth.

He’s given a 75% chance of playing on the Premier League’s official website.
