Ant McPartlin has thanked Prince Harry for writing to him to thank the star for speaking out on his battles with depression and addiction.
Ant, 41, checked into rehab in June after admitting that he needed help following addiction to painkillers after a knee operation.
His alcohol consumption had also increased and he admitted that he had clinical depression and would sometimes be unable to get out of bed.
Now Ant has admitted that Harry, who previously admitted to seeking help after refusing to deal with the death of his mother, Princess Diana, when he was 12, wrote to him to send his best wishes.
‘I woke up this morning, getting ready to come here, and was given an envelope,’ Ant said.
‘It was a handwritten note from Harry sending all of his best wishes on behalf of him, William and Catherine and telling me well done for speaking out. Obviously he leads the Heads Together charity, so it’s something he encourages.
‘I wish I’d spoken out a lot earlier. But what a great time to get that letter. Brilliant. Thanks, Haz.’
Ant was speaking to The Sun in his first interview since entering rehab.
He admitted that as soon as he walked in the doors he felt relief because the drugs ‘didn’t have control over me any more’.
‘When I first went in I was so bad I was just happy to have someone looking after us. They changed all the meds — started managing it.’
Ant was not diagnosed as an alcoholic although he admitted he has taken a break from the booze and he plans to go without for a little longer, but that he is looking forward to having a pint – even joking about the upcoming series of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.
‘I can’t go to Australia and not have a cold one at the surf club with Dec like we normally do,’ he said of his on-screen partner Declan Donnelly.
‘That’s something to look forward to but I have to get well first.’
