Paul Pogba has harmed Manchester United’s chances of winning the derby with Man City this weekend, says Fernandinho.
The France international will play no part in this weekend’s hugely anticipated clash between the top two sides in the Premier League.
That’s because of his straight red card in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Arsenal. Pogba was dismissed for a nasty challenge on Hector Bellerin.
It landed him with a three-game suspension, which begins this weekend.
Man City midfielder Fernandinho says it is a blow for Manchester United.
‘Of course, any team that loses such a good player, they are going to miss him,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘But Manchester United have good players and it doesn’t matter who is going to play in his position, they will do a good job. It will be a tough game for both teams.’
Man City are looking to set a Premier League record of 14 straight wins in a season by beating Manchester United. Victory would also see Pep Guardiola’s team open up an 11-point gap at the top of the table. Even then however, the job wouldn’t be done, according to Fernandinho.
The Premier League is so hard and tough,’ said the midfielder. ‘You can drop points at any time. It will be a little step for us if we win this game, but nothing will be finished. There will still be a long way to go.’
