Oh god it was awkward.

In a never-before-seen moment of the Oscars, the wrong Best Picture winner was announced – and wasn’t discovered until the wrong recipient had already begun giving acceptance speeches.

It was only when Jordan Horowitz, a producer on La La Land, broke the news that everyone realised the monumental f**k-up that had just taken place.

Warren Beatty had sadly read the card for the previous award, which had seen Emma Stone win Best Actress for La La Land.

'The Oscars just pulled a Steve Harvey!' Gaffe sends the internet into meltdown
Jordan Horowitz held up the card to prove it

Warren had somehow been given the wrong card, as Moonlight was in fact the real winner of the most coveted gong.

Naturally, the internet was going to have its way with this one. Looks like Steve Harvey – who made a similar screw up when he announced the wrong Miss Universe – is off the hook now.

There were also comparisons to the presidential election, with viewers hoping this could mean the wrong result was read back in November.

Now to hunt down the culprit:

Piers Morgan branded the whole shebang a ‘farce’ and a proper ‘wtf’ moment:

Steve Harvey, it’s all cool now.

Oh Hollywood, what happened?!

There was suddenly a great concern for Hillary Clinton.

Was Trump involved?

All the lolz.
