Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy took to Twitter to mock Lewis Dunk’s ‘bullet header’ own goal for Brighton and Hove Albion during today’s match.
The France international, a summer signing from Monaco, has quickly become something of a fan-favourite for his social media antics, but seems to have crossed a line in terms of sportsmanship today.
With City already 1-0 up through Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho’s cross nearly found Gabriel Jesus in the penalty area, only for Dunk to head into his own net in an attempt to stop the Brazilian getting the ball.
Mendy clearly enjoyed the incident, and mocked a fellow professional by tweeting ‘Bullet header’ followed by some crying and laughing emojis.
Mendy won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco last season and will be hoping to achieve a Premier League win with City this season, with Pep Guardiola’s side widely seen as favourites for the trophy.
Still, they were not at their best this afternoon and certainly benefited from a small piece of fortune as Dunk put past his own goalkeeper to give them a two-goal cushion.
Mendy is not currently in action for City due to a thigh injury keeping him sidelined for the start of the season.
