Luciano Spalletti has claimed Ivan Perisic has told him he wants to play for Inter in the coming season.
Manchester United has been chasing the Inter winger for the entire transfer window, but the Red Devils have struggled to agree a fee with the Italian side.
It was reported United would resume talks with Inter this week and were finally closing in on a deal for the goalscorer.
However, Inter manager Spalletti has now moved to end all hope of Perisic joining United by insisting the player does not want the transfer.
‘Perisic is determined to remain,’ Spalletti told Sky Sports Italia after Inter beat Real Betis 1-0 in a friendly.
Ivan Perisic’s Serie A season
‘He spoke like a player who wants to do well and be professional.’
Inter have yet to kick off the new season, but Perisic has trained and undergone pre-season without any complaints despite the persistent links to Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old has done nothing to play down the move and has even fueled speculation with a few teasing social media posts.
But, it now seems as though Inter and Perisic plan to continue their working relationship.
The decision will be a big blow to United who were desperate to fulfil Jose Mourinho’s final transfer request.
Mourinho wants one more signing this summer and has told the club he is eager for another top class winger in his squad.
Overtures to Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale were shut down by the player and the club, which prompted United to re-ignite their interest in Perisic.
