If the American Idol head honcho’s want the musical ledge on the panel they’re going to have to get their money up after confirming Katy Perry as a judge with a staggering £19m deal.

The Bon Appetit singer, who became the first person to ever reach 100million followers on Twitter, announced that she’d be joining the talent show back in May.

Confirming the exciting news, she tweeted: ‘SO thrilled @ABCNetwork is bringing back @AmericanIdol, and I’m bringing it back to the MUSIC [see] you at auditions.’

In her initial statement following the news, she said: ‘I am honoured and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories,’ said Perry.

‘I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.’
