Snapchat users took to Twitter today incensed by the news that one of Snapchat’s most controversial features would be returning.
The Best Friends feature was rumoured to be making a comeback on the app this year.
Once upon a time you could go through the list of your Snapchat friends and check who their three best friends were – who they were contacting via Snapchat the most.
This was the Best Friends feature and it was taken off the app in January 2015.
Even since then, rumours of its return have randomly flown around but none more so than today’s picture.
The picture that has been shared around multiple times is strongly believed to be fake.
The feature was one of Snapchat’s more intrusive features as it allowed users to see who their Snapchat friend’s top three best friends were.
The reaction to the possibility of the feature’s return is in response to exactly how controversial it was and often led to unnecessary drama for users.
Once someone snapped you three times, even if you didn’t reply, their name would appear as one of your top three best friends on the app.
Some people seemed widely excited that their stalking capabilities on the app would be once again ignited to full force.
For others, the prospect of the feature returning sent them spiralling into the abyss as they thought their secretive ways would be revealed for all to see.
If you hadn’t been so awe-struck at the thought of Snapchat best friends feature returning then you would have seen the photo for all its fakery.
Also if you log on to Snapchat’s support webpage they say in their Best Friends help section that ‘nobody else can see your list of Best Friends. This feature is just for you.’
Although the picture is most likely fake and the rumour of the return of Best Friends is false, Snapchat users were pretty quick to be drawn in, tweeting that the return of the feature meant the end of most of their friendships.
Snapchat is coming under fire again this week after a malfunction with the app meant users across the globe were unable to send snaps on Monday night.
The app has been experiencing some technical difficulties lately making for excellent drama on Twitter.
While many just logged on to check that other’s were experiencing the mayhem too, others were venting about the possibility of losing their Snapchat streaks.
However, in light of the often and varied connectivity issues with Snapchat, it has started to restore people’s Snapchat streaks if they were a victim of the period of malfunction.
