Stanley Johnson has been announced as one of the contestants of this year’s I’m A Celebrity, but who else is he apart from Boris’s dad?

He’s set to join the likes of Amir Khan, Rebekah Vardy and Jack Maynard in the jungle, with the show set to kick off this coming Sunday.

But who is Stanley? And why is up for sleeping among the snakes for primetime exposure? Here’s everything you need to know about Stanley Johnson.

Who is he?

As previously mentioned, Stanley is the father of current UK foreign secretary and former London mayor Boris Johnson.

Stanley however was formerly a politician himself, being a Conservative MEP for Wight & Hampshire East between 1979 to 1984.

He is also a co-chairman of Environmentalists For Europe, a group of environmentalists campaigning for the UK to remain a member of the EU.

Stanley famously disagreed with son Boris during the EU referendum in 2016, but recently backed Brexit, criticising the EU for heading ‘in a direction we don’t really want to go’.

So is he mainly ‘Boris’s dad’?

Not entirely. Stanley has been married twice and has a total of six children between them, named Boris, Jo, Leo, Rachel from his first marriage to Charlotte Wahl, and Julia and Maximillian from his second marriage to Jennifer Kidd.

He divorced his second wife back in the 1980s.

So he’s been busy with sprogs, anything else?

Stop being so dismissive.

Stanley is also an accomplished author, having published a number of books on environmental issues and nine novels.

One of his novels, The Commissioner, was even made into a 1998 film starring John Hurt.

Fair. So is he expecting to win this thing or what?

Speaking about his chances, Stanley said: ‘I am not expecting to win but I would like to do reasonably well.’

He also revealed how he hasn’t even told Boris about entering the show, saying: ‘It’s an absolute secret as far as they are concerned.

‘My wife does now know I am planning to do this. Her reaction? It’s hard to say.’

I’m A Celebrity starts on November 19 on ITV at 9pm.
