The menopause can be a difficult time for many women.
The hot flushes, the weight gain, the mood swings. It’s like your body is trying to fight you – and for what? At least when you were pregnant, you got a reward at the end of it. This particular battle just ends in feeling quite tired and very, very sweaty.
And while there are therapies out there that can help, they don’t entirely rid you of the symptoms.
If only there was a delicious and intoxicating drink around which could cool you down and feel a little more normal.
Craft beer makers Portsmouth Brewery has just come up with a beer called Libeeration which claims to help ease menopausal symptoms.
It’s taken them six years to perfect but the brewery has just announced that they’re read to go to market with their de-flushing product.
‘It’s taken years to bring this idea to market,’ brewery co-owner Joanne Francis tells Konbini.
‘After consulting with women health practitioners and herbalists, our team came up with ingredients believed to relieve symptoms like sleeplessness, hot flashes, and mood swings.
‘And, we want to shift the mentality from focusing on the negative aspects of this stage in life, to celebrating the liberating aspects!’

The beer is made from a heady concoction of herbs and plants known to be useful in calming down symptoms, including Motherwort, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Stinging Nettle, Mugwort, Rose, Chickweed and Damiana.
Portsmouth Brewery worked with a herbalist to come up with a long list of herbs with beneficial qualities known to alleviate menopausal side effects.
So, what does it taste like?
Apparently it’s quite earthy and herby (as you’d expect).
Yay for craft beer directed at women and yay for more interest being done to make middle-aged women feel more comfortable.
