Drinking vodka and Red Bull or Jägerbombs is a seriously bad idea – and not just because they make your head feel like someone stuck a power drill in through your ear.
People who get drunk on energy drinks and spirits are more likely to be injured, because they keep you awake, a Canadian study shows.
Usually, getting drunk makes people tired and want to sleep, but in combination with highly-caffeinated drinks, revellers are more likely to stay up later.
Lead author Audra Roemer whose team reviewed 13 studies on the subject, said, ‘The stimulant effects of caffeine mask the result that most people get when they drink.
‘Usually when you’re drinking alcohol, you get tired and you go home.
‘Energy drinks mask that, so people may underestimate how intoxicated they are, end up staying out later, consume more alcohol, and engage in risky behaviour and more hazardous drinking practices.’
