Let’s face it, there were a fair few shocked faces around the Kodak Theatre when it was announced that La La Land hadn’t won the best picture Oscar after all.

But the stars of the film had a rather different reaction to the news that Moonlight had in fact taken the grand prize away from the multi-award-winning musical.

At least, Ryan Gosling did, if this photo is anything to go by:

Is that a smirk we see, Ryan? We do believe it is.

Co-star Emma Stone, on the other hand – fresh from taking the best actress prize – seemed a little more taken aback:

However she put a brave face on things in the press room afterwards, saying: ‘I f***ing loved Moonlight. God, I love Moonlight so much! I’m so excited for Moonlight!

‘And of course, it was an amazing thing to hear La La Land. I think we all would have loved to win Best Picture.’

The actress went on to reveal how ‘excited’ she was for Barry Jenkins’ film, saying: ‘I think [Moonlight] is one of the best films of all time.So I was pretty beside myself.’
