It’s a simple act of kindness, but one that may have helped this young man get a new job.
He was pictured being helped to tie his tie by a stranger on a train in San Francisco after trying and failing to do it himself.
The unknown woman approached him to ask if he needed help and then helped him tie his knot.
It is not known where he was going to, but many believe he may have had a job interview.
When the picture was uploaded on Reddit, a user said: ‘You know he had somewhere important to go if he thought he needed to wear a tie even though he couldn’t tie it. Very nice gesture here.’
While others have marvelled at the woman’s ability to tie a tie while facing him. PicklesthePirate said: ‘I think some women learn to tie them only for the purpose of doing it for other people. My dad taught me (his daughter) when he was teaching my brothers; I honestly don’t think I could tie one on myself if I tried. It’s just one of those skills you pick up to help people when you can.’
The picture is similar to one that surfaced in 2015 of elderly couple, Alfred and Adelina Alberghini, helping a young man tie his tie.
Redd Desmond Thomas, who took the picture in Hopkins, Minnesota, said: ‘The young guy sitting down was struggling with his tie. The woman in the red coat noticed, and asked “do you know how to tie it properly?” The young guy said “No ma’am”.
‘She taps her husband and says “come to this side and teach this young man how to tie his tie”.
‘The older gentleman moved without hesitation [almost a reflex response] and gave him a step-by-step tutorial. Then, afterwards, the elder gentleman watched the young gentleman repeat the steps and show him that he had it.
‘I was some distance away (but close enough to hear the exchange), and got even closer to snap this candid photo of the tutorial in progress before hopping on the train. I LOVE THIS!’
