Survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire have joined a number of music stars to record the charity single to raise money for those affected by the incident.

The likes of Stormzy, Pixie Lott, Robbie Williams and Craig David were previously announced to be taking part in Simon Cowell’s charity single following the tragedy, which is believed to have killed 58 people.

According to The Sun, Gareth Malone led a choir of 300 locals featuring Grenfell Tower residents on the single – which is a spin on the Simon and Garfunkel classic Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Speaking about their involvement, an insider said: ‘It was really moving. The local residents became really emotional. Some of them actually lived in Grenfell Tower. Their homes have been destroyed.

‘It’s very raw for a lot of them.’

Simon Cowell previously announced plans for the single last week, saying how the tragedy particularly struck a chord.

‘I was watching the news and then I drove up to see the building which is around the corner. I’ve seen a lot of bad things and not far from where I was sitting.

‘It dawned on you. It sent chills through you. What hit home was seeing that wall and seeing all those messages.

‘I saw how residents turned up with water and clothes and that’s when I thought I’m not going to sit here and do nothing. For someone in my position to do nothing would be appalling.’

All proceeds to the single will go to families affected by the fire, with the government recently confirming VAT from the track will be refunded and donated to charity.

The single is reportedly expected to release on Wednesday.
