There’s a very real possibility Ed Sheeran might move 11,426 miles away from the UK and live in New Zealand.
The 26-year-old is originally from Framlingham in Suffolk, but that hasn’t stopped him inquiring about New Zealand citizenship during his ‘gap year’ off.
And following Trump’s election in the US in November, Shape Of You singer Ed reckons New Zealand is the safest place to live should things take an ugly turn.
‘I did ask for [New Zealand] citizenship [while I was there] and I think we got an email from someone involved with that,’ he told The Daily Star.
‘So maybe that’s going to happen. I could be a citizen.’
Should the world stage become a little more hostile, Ed added that he reckons any potential aggressors will not be ‘ bothered’ to hassle any Kiwis.
He explained: ‘I’ve always said that if a world war breaks out, the one place I would go to is New Zealand because no-one is going to be bothered to come that far to invade.
‘They’ll be like, “Ah, we’ll leave them be.”‘
Let’s not forget the Lord Of The Rings movies have transformed NZ into a natural home for Hobbits, which might be another reason why the move appeals to Ed.
After all, Ed’s a huge Tolkien fan and scored one of the Hobbit movies.
As well as making plans to ensure his future safety abroad, Ed is planning to have kids with his girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, 24, and retire from music when his offspring reach school age.
Cherry and Ed have already bought cats as pets, and we kind of hope they’re not going to ship the poor things off to New Zealand with them should that move happen.
