A man was caught by his own camera as he installed it above a toilet at a branch of Starbucks.
It is believed the camera was there for up to three to four weeks before it was spotted in the only customer toilet at the branch.
It was hidden in a grate in the ceiling and was spotted by someone using the toilet on November 22, 2016.
Police have now released the image to track down the man so that they can question him.
Detectives have analysed the footage and said that they feature a number of video files of people using the toilet.
They believe he was doing it for ‘the purpose of voyeurism’.
Scotland Yard said: ‘At this stage there is no reason to believe these videos could have been viewed by anybody other than the police, as the device was seized at the location.
‘The identity of the male who police believe placed the camera at the location is currently unknown.
‘Detectives have released his image in the hope that someone will be able to identify him. No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.’
