The revival of The Crystal Maze might have had its fair share of memorable moments – from Louie Spence’s hysterical reaction to a lock-in to Rylan being, well, just Rylan.
But we reckon this moment from the civilian version, which aired on Friday night, could be hard to top.
It involved an unfortunate contestant named Rob – whose attempts to conquer an intergalactic challenge in the maze came a cropper when he, er, got stuck on one of the planets.
We mean, really stuck.
Despite all the encouragement his team could muster up – not to mention some words of advice from Richard Ayoade – Rob remained rooted on the purple planet as he tried gamely to swing to the next one.
‘Is it possible he’s afraid of planets?’ Richard asked as the team tried to spur him on.
Eventually, he did make it to the next planet – except then he really did land in trouble, spinning wildly round on the red planet – until, er, this happened.
Now that’s gotta hurt. Not that this seemed to be a concern for Richard, who simply reacted to him touching what wasn’t really the floor but ‘the infinite void of space’ by telling him his faux pas had earned him a lock-in.
The folks at home absolutely loved it, mind:
Although that wasn’t the only slightly crazy thing to happen on Friday’s show – as it also played host to this cosplay team:
Yup, all things considered this might just have been the best edition yet.
The Crystal Maze continues next Friday night on Channel 4 at 8pm.
