Brierley Hill factory security guard attack arrest

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a 73-year-old security guard who was “savagely beaten” at a factory.

The pensioner was attacked after challenging a man found inside Stokes Forgings in Brierley Hill on Sunday at 13:00 GMT.

Police said the guard suffered serious head injuries in the “sustained and violent attack”.

A 44-year-old man of no fixed address is in police custody.

The attack is thought to have lasted for around 15 minutes and police believe a shovel was used to beat the guard.

Det Insp Colin Mattinson said: “The security guard was left with serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition in hospital.”
