A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal assault on a 27-year-old man which left him fighting for life in hospital.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and robbery following the attack on Friday.

Emergency services were called to a churchyard on Middleton Street, in Leicester, following the robbery at around 4.21am.

The victim, who was on his way to work, was rushed to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre in a critical condition, where he is currently described as being stable.

Three boys, aged 15,14, and 13, and three girls, two aged 14 and one aged 13, were arrested in connection with the incident.

The 14-year-old boy who was charged with attempted murder appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court.

Leicestershire Police also revealed two other boys, aged 15 and 13, have been charged with robbery.

The two other boys, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at the same court on March 10.

Two girls aged 14 and 13, who were also arrested, have been released with no further action.

A third arrested girl, also aged 14, is on bail pending further inquiries.
