Barcelona have reportedly ended their transfer pursuit of Juventus forward and Manchester United target Paulo Dybala due to fears of incompatibility with Lionel Messi.
The Catalan giants are in the market for a big name attacking player after losing Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, and look to be prioritising Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele.
Barca should learn more about the fate of their pursuit of Dembele later today, but seem to have abandoned any potential move for Dybala as an alternative.
The Argentina international, who has also been linked with Manchester United in recent times, has shone in Turin but doesn’t seem to fit the profile of player Barcelona are after.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the club’s main concern is that Dybala would not be able to play alongside Messi, who remains top dog at the Nou Camp and is thought to be one of the reasons Neymar left.
Dybala and Messi have played together at international level before, but are slightly similar in playing style and could end up occupying similar areas in the final third of the pitch.
Dembele looks a more suitable like-for-like replacement for Neymar on the left of the club’s front three, and is seemingly pushing to be allowed the move to La Liga.
Dybala, meanwhile, has just been handed the number 10 shirt at Juventus in a major gesture from the club as they surely look to make him a focal point of their team in the season ahead.
