Arsenal have identified Everton playmaker Ross Barkley as the perfecet replacement for Mesut Ozil as the Gunners face up to the reality of losing the German this summer.
Ozil, 28, has rejected a £250,000-a-week offer from the Gunners and has just 14 months left on his deal at the Emirates.
Arsene Wenger is facing huge pressure from the fans to step down this summer but he’s expected to persevere at the club and wants to reassert his authority on the squad.
Barkley, 23, is out of contract at Goodison Park in 2018 and Ronald Koeman told the playmaker earlier this week that he would be sold if he didn’t agree to a new deal.
According to the Telegraph, the Gunners are keeping a close eye on Barkley’s situation and believe he could replace Ozil if he leaves the club.
Barkley can play in an attacking midfield position, as well as centrally and on the wing. Though Everton are keen on keeping the England international, they will cash in instead of losing him on a free in 2018.
