There’s not a problem in the world that can’t be soothed by the presence of a kitten.

No matter how down you are, little cats can pick you up like nothing else.

And that goes for anxious dogs too.

When Samantha Kreisler decided to adopt Lady from a centre, she was told that she’d be a lot of work due various dietary and skin issues. But Lady’s biggest problem was crippling anxiety.

‘I saw from an early age that she had anxiety whenever I left her alone,’ Samantha tells The Dodo.

‘She would literally get physically sick whenever I left her.’

And that was a problem because Samantha was a student at the time and was often away in class.

But she soon came up with the perfect solution.

‘I noticed that she had an affinity for my neighbour’s cat, Bruce,’ she says.

‘He was an indoor-outdoor cat in Florida and she’d constantly go over and lick him. So I decided to get a kitten for Lady.’

And that’s how Kitty and Lady became best buds.

‘Lady fell in love at first sight so she came on a bit strong, but once Kitty fell asleep on Lady’s warm tummy, she was in love.’

They do everything together these days, from grooming each other every morning to people watching on the porch together.

Lady’s anxiety has disappeared and no longer vomits when Samantha goes off.
