Chelsea star left out, he's not injured - Conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says defender David Luiz is fully fit and available for selection despite his absence from the Blues’ starting line-up.

The Brazil international started on the bench in the 0-0 draw against Leicester City on Saturday and wasn’t called upon following an injury to Gary Cahill in the 33rd minute.

Instead, 21-year-old Andreas Christensen got the nod from Conte to partner Antonio Rudiger for the rest of the game.

When asked in his pre-match press conference if Luiz was still nursing an injury, the Chelsea boss simply replied: ‘He has recovered from an injury.’

The Italian then shifted the focus on to his attacking players’ deficiencies, arguing the fact that his defence is playing well on the basis of their three consecutive clean sheets, although Chelsea also failed to score in each of those games against Arsenal, Norwich and Leicester.

He continued: ‘The problem is not the defenders because every defender is playing very well, we are not conceding but we are not scoring.’

Chelsea have registered three consecutive goalless draws in all competitions for their first time in their history.
