Amir Khan’s estranged wife Faryal Makhdoom reportedly threatened to ‘ruin’ his reputation when the boxer had previously proposed a divorce.
The 30-year-old boxer confirmed his split from wife Makhdoom in a Snapchat video following a very public feud, which saw Amir claim his wife was dating Anthony Joshua.
Now it’s being claimed Amir had previously attempted to divorce Makhdoom two years ago, with the pair apparently ‘living in hell’.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, a friend of Amir’s said: ‘Amir has wanted to leave Faryal for two years.
‘But every time an argument blew up, she would tell him he was dreaming if he thought he could divorce her – it would be her divorcing him because she had so much dirt on him.’
The friend also claimed Makhdoom would ‘destroy him’ and ‘leave his reputation in tatters’ if Amir tried to divorce her, with the boxer reportedly turning to alcohol to deal with his marriage.
The ‘dirt’ in question was Muslim Amir’s alleged reputation of ‘hard partying’ and ‘womanising’.
Makhdoom has since denied the claims she was seeing Anthony Joshua on social media, writing: ‘The screenshots sent to Amir were fake and Amir thought Joshua and I were speaking… when we have never even met.
‘Anger took the better of him and he tweeted away without thinking.’
Anthony Joshua himself also denied the allegations shortly after Amir’s tweets, by sharing a clip of Shaggy’s It Wasn’t Me.
The couple tied the knot in 2013, and have one daughter together named Lamaisah.
